The Inlandboatmen’s Union of Pacific, Marine Division of ILWU, represents workers along the west coast between Alaska and Hawaii. IBU members work on a variety of vessels, including ferries, tugboats, barges, dredges, tour boats, and water taxis. We also represent shoreside workers including ticket sellers, traffic and terminal attendants, terminal agents, warehouse workers, maintenance workers, tankerman, longshore, and dispatchers. Founded in 1918, the IBU prides itself on being one of the most democratic unions in the nation. We represent the safest and most efficient crews in our industry. The IBU is the largest inland union on the West Coast representing the maritime industry. It is a democratic, politically active organization dedicated to protecting our membership and their livelihoods.
